How to get to know your audience better:

It’s get to know your customer day! I can’t think of what would be a better time than today to talk about ways that you as a business owner can get to know your audience and customers better.

I think this is one of the most important things that you can do as a business. This rings more true today in 2021 with how easy it is to interact with your customers and audience. It’s an essential part of your business to have the best customer service possible.

With this blog post, I hope to highlight some ways that you can improve on interacting with your customers and your target audience.

1. High quality community engagement

We’ll start with what I think is one of the most effective ways to get to know your audience better and that’s with great community engagement. It’s important that you interact with your audience through your social channels and your website.

You want to make sure that you’re responding to comments on your social media posts or on your blog. This shows your audience that you care about their opinions and appreciate them taking the time to comment on your content.

Also, you’ll want to be active in liking and commenting on their posts as well. This works primarily for service based companies and you can do this with past and current clients. Plus, it’s a great way to draw new clients to your profile.

When you have a bigger account, be analytical and examine how your audience is interacting with one another on your social media posts. There can be clues here as to what type of content they may want to see in the future.

2. Create buyer personas

Buyer personas are a great way to understand the needs and wants of your audience and your customer base. It’s a great way to effectively develop your product and/or services with a target audience in mind.

Having a buyer persona for you and your team keeps your team focused on the most effective audience for your product and/or service. This can help avoid being too general and not having an audience at all. Also, it helps with the messaging of your business as your audience will feel more connected with your brand.

You will be able to understand why your audience wants your product or service, how you will be able to target and convert them, and also give you and your business the ability to create long lasting relationships with them.

3. Build a Facebook community and group

This works great if you are an influencer, offer services, or are a coach. You can create a Facebook group and begin to grow a community within that group. There are many ways to do this including creating a group just for your clients/customers, or a bigger group with hopes to capture new clients.

I believe this is a great service to offer if you are a coach, or offer tailored services as it creates a community of your current and past clients. This benefits not only you by being able to continuously help and serve your clients, but also your clients so they can work with each other to continue to grow.

It’s also a great way to get new clients and a way to grow a community around your brand where people are positively encouraging and helping each other grow. For example, I could create a group for personal trainers and provide a space where they can get tips on how to market themselves and optimize their website.

Building a community is an excellent way to get to know your audience and allow them to feel more connected with you and your brand.

4. Conduct surveys and focus groups

You can start to collect feedback from your audience by conducting surveys and even bringing in a focus group if you have the room to do so. These are great ways to get real feedback from your audience to see what is and isn’t working for your audience.

Surveys are great because you can ask both general and specific questions to get answers about your products or services. You can even do them anonymously so your participants feel more comfortable giving you a straight answer.

Focus groups work great when you are testing a product out, particularly for SaaS products. Having a focus group can give you real-time feedback on your product and this is important as often what you think might be best actually is not, and something you may have thought less of turns out to be the most effective.

Both of these are fantastic ways to get to know your audience better and make sure you’re doing things within your business to best serve them.

5. Experiment with updates to your products or new services

This can go hand-in-hand with what you learned from your focus group or your surveys. Also, from what you are seeing in your analysis of your communities on social media. You can take that feedback and experiment with updates to your products, or offer a new service.

With all the information that you learned from your audience, this should be easier to create an update or change a service to make it more effective. It’s a great way to keep evolving with your audience and continuing to grow your community.

You always want to be improving your relationship with your audience and growing your community. If you’re able to innovate and continue to invest in your business based on data from your audience, then it will make it easier to be able to grow with them.

You might even find that your new service or product iteration is the best thing to happen to your business! Don’t be afraid to innovate and try new things.

Conclusion

Your community and audience are the backbone of your business here in 2021. It’s important that you work hard to ensure that your audience knows that you care about them. Doing the above things will help you to better understand your audience and allow you to work to help them grow.

I think get to know your customer day is a tremendous day for businesses and allows them to sit back and really think about how they are best serving their audience. Business at its best is helping people and making their lives easier and more enjoyable so they can spend more time doing the things they care about.
